Yes you would have to pay an electrician to add the ground wire yourself. But it is only a safety ground to protect you from potentially getting shocked when using appliances with metal cases that could experience an electical short to case.

I believe you are safe using your surge protector with computer plugged into your existing ungrounded outlet, but would welcome other comments from anyone else!
