Type X drywall

Posted by BrianH on April 1st, 2004 11:01 PM

I am installing a zero-clearance vent-free gas firebox, and the installation instructions require the box to be 9" from "combustible materials".

I've seen postings where people suggest using Cement Board products (especially when tile will be applied to the wall around the firebox), but in my case I'm not tiling, and I'm wondering if the "Type X" fire resistant wallboard will work? (The cement board is in odd sizes, much heavier, a little harder to work with... I'd rather use the Type X if possible.)

Thanks in advance.
