Lori, This may not be the answer you're looking for, but we recently installed a tub surround. Before doing so, it was necessary to remove old plastic tile which had been attached with some very impressive adhesive. It took a lot of time and effort to remove the adhesive (wood chisels and sanding) from our plaster walls. If I were to do it again, I would not hesitate to take the wall down to the studs and replace it with new dry wall. Perhaps heat would work, but considering the work involved and the safety factor, I wouldn't try to salvage the old dry wall. Hope this helps. Paul
