I have an oversize bath tub in my bathroom. The builder put a standard size tub spout (w/diverter) on the pipe coming out of the wall and used a 2 inch collar to extend the spout so that it flows into the tub. This collar rusted out and I can't find a replacement anywhere so I though I would solve the problem by using a 7 inch spout(w/diverter). The copper pipe coming out of the wall is only 3 3/4 inch long and when I put this new spout on the water flowed out around the allen screw underneath and back through the hole in the tile around the copper pipe. (ended up coming through the light fixture in the dining room). Aren't tub spout sizes standard? Is there something I'm missing as to why this diverter doesn't appear to "divert" as required?
