I think I'd remove the drywall, replace it with a sheet of plywood, with a sheet of FRP over that, the total thickness thin enough to fit completely under the tub lip. Caulk the seam under the lip. There are a variety of aluminum or plastic corner and edge trims available. If reusing the base now leaves a gap to the carpet, get a wider base or add a base shoe.
