Is it electric or gas? What's the model #? Does it feel like the 'area' around the dryer is real warm whereas the inside (as you say) is not?
Perhaps the blower is no longer pushing hot air into the dryer. You'll need to take off a panel to see if this is the case. Perhaps you should simply replace the thermostat. If you don't have the owner's manual, go to any store that sell Maytag and get the Service Center phone # from any owner's manual. Perhaps 1-800-555-1212 has a phone # for them. Use the owner's manual for your particular dryer. Don't try to use the manual for a different dryer. This could be disasterous.
If you haven't solved your problem still, try looking around these 2 appliance WEB sites for 'ways' to ask / visit the site (via forum, e-mail, tips, troubleshooting, etc., etc.) to solve your problem. Again, you'll need the make, model, and such to have them help you. Try Garrell's Appliance or The Appliance Clinic for help.
