Without more specifics, but if this is an exposed basement with 1 or 2 walls exposed to the outside elements, then you may have a possibility of not getting enought heat into the basement during very cold weather. However, if the basement is typical with all of it below ground, (except for the top 12 to 18 inches) then it is my opinion you have little to worry about.
Think about it, once you get about 3 feet below ground level, the ground temperature is about 55 degrees year round. That heat source will prevent your basement from freezing as long as you don't have windows open, etc. Plus some of the upstairs heat will migrate to the basement as well.
