I also tried to remove linoleum from hardwood w/ out much success:
1. the tile may be asbestos, in which case you should think twice about removing it.
2. not sure about yours, but the linoleum on my floor was secured using a tar paper type of backing w/ adhesive, which is next to impossible to remove. (I tried scoring it and letting the water soak through to the adhesive. This worked but was EXTREMELY time consuming and left the wood damaged by water...)
