Hi guys,
I am a novist homebuilder attempting to panel
the basement walls in my home. I already started
studding the walls using 2x4s in the conventional manner (16" apart vertically). Now I realize this
may be a problem if I want to install the grooved
side out of the 1x6" boards vertically. I guess I will have to turn boards around to smooth side or install firing strips perpendicular to the studs. Any ideas?
As far as nailing I recently bought a Pasload impulse nailer it shoots up to 2.5" 10gauge nails. Do you think this could eliminate the need of nailing into the face or is that the only way to prevent bowing - how about using some liquid nail on the studs or strips?
Another question is should the back of the boards be treated with something like linseed oil or can I just go with a vapor barrier.
