Toilet troubles

Of 3 toilets in our home, 2 are giving me fits.

1 never seems to flush clear. If it's not cleaned almost daily, it begins to smell. The water appears to "backwash" some of the waste with each flush. The toilet is now 10 years old, but the problem seems to be rather new.

Toilet #2. When the handle is depressed, it begins it's flush, but as soon as you let go the handle - the flush stops. Even if the cycle is not completed.

Any hints you can provide will be appreciated. Hope I don't require a plummer. Can't afford one at this time.

Thanks. Val
