I would agree that many could properly install an Aprilaire humidifier in their own home. As with all DIY projects, the homeowner must accept the responsibility for any complications that arise from the work they choose to perform rather than hiring a contractor. It is your choice as to whether you desire to complete the installation of a humidifier or hire someone to do it for you. It is wise however to research the possible complications that may occur from improper installation. No need to argue the point, it's your home and it's up to you. If you can install a humidifier properly and save some money then you have acheived your goal. If you improperly install the humidifier and are faced with added expenses, well you know how the saying goes...If you play with fire don't complain when you get burned.
