Fred-to go along with Scott, if you opt for a house with any Engineered structural members-TJI's/trusses/etc-take the extra time and watch it throught the construction phase. This way you can monitor the tradesmen. The structural integrity of those things is directly related to the amount of material left intact, the more that gets taken out the less strength. The majority of tradesmen are very competent but you get some guy that cuts out holes in excess of the knockouts across a few joists and you have a problem. Personally, I didn't use engineered structural members in my house for this and a couple other reasons.
