Tin Roof Over Shingles

Hi Kim,

There is no problem with doing what you want to do. The existing shingle roof will act as an underlayment and secondary waterproofing element of the roof. Be sure the new tin roof is fastened through the high points on the panels and not down in the valleys. Also, be sure the contractor or person doing the work uses fasteners (nails or screws) with rubber washers and that the rubber is exterior grade such as EPDM or neoprene.
