Another alternative would be to buy either "Lincrusta" or "Anaglypta" they're two types of a wallpaper like material that you can find embossed like tin, and then you paint it.
I've seen it on the net, but unfortunately don't have the web address handy at the moment, I'm sure you can find it.
Also, the Lincrusta is made like linoleum, so it is very strong, but of course more expensive than the Anaglypta.
I found it on the net months ago, and I just saw it last week on an episode of Lynette Jennings. Maybe you can keep an eye out for that, to see the look. She made kitchen cabinets from it.
