tin ceiling paint removal

Posted by Sal on November 28th, 1999 10:36 AM

I have a lovely old tin ceiling which has been painted about ten times too often. The paint is cracked and chipped throughout, and much of the detail is lost due to layers of paint.

I would like to cheaply, easily and safely remove much, if not all, of the old paint myself. That means just me, and I have virtually NO skill. So I want to avoid taking it down and stripping it, because I feel quit sure I would never get it back up again.

Also, I feel safe in saying that some of this paint is lead based, the house is roughly 200 years old. While the ceiling probably isn't, it is definitely pre-WWII.

Any advice?
