timer failure?

Lucy, it sounds like your timer has failed and will have to be replaced, especially if the knob remains in the position where you set it at the start. If your dryer has an automatic cycle, marked by damp dry, less dry, wrinkle care, etc., rather than specified minutes to run, and you are using this cycle, the problem is more likely to be a failed moisture sensor. In either case, replacement is probably best left to a repairman unless you've done some similar appliance repairs in the past and are comfortable with doing such.
