tiling really stuck to my hard wood floor...

Posted by Heather on March 2nd, 2003 08:13 PM

I am trying to do some fixer-uppers around the house myself. I have a project in the midst and I am in a "sticky" predicament. The tiles in the living room area have been down for about 40 or more years now and I want to take them up and get the hardwood redone. The only problem is, I am only about 1/2 done getting them up and the only time that they come up is when it is about 95 degrees and the black glue/tar is a little soft. I have spent at least 10 minutes/tile thus far and have over 10 hours into this with not much to show. I have asked at all the local hardware locations around me for advise and nobody has anything except what I have been doing; keep prying them up with scrapers when it is hot enough out and try not to gauge the floor. Is there anything easier to help me out? I plan on having the floor completely restored once I can get these tiles up.
Thanks so much to anyone with any tips and hints!
