Tiling over concrete; help w/expansion joints

I'm going to tile a section of a 3 year old basement that has an expansion joint (or whatever the joint is called that is put in the slab so it cracks in a controlled manner). Question is, should I fill this crack with something (if so, what?) and lay the tile right over it, or should I lay out the tile so it comes to the edges of the joint thereby forcing the joint to be on a grout line (filled with grout, caulk, or something else?)? Let the opinions roll... thanks in advance.
