They can be good, if done right. Don't skimp, buy the best hardware you can afford - Grant is good. Whenever possible I make the wall thicker so that I can beef up the framing that comes with the kit. I also work my final trim and stops, etc. so that it is easily removed in case the door gets messed up and needs to be removed. I also use finish screws (mini square drive) on the final trim so removal is easier if required.
