I've never tried them. Personally, I always think folks would be better staining their cedar siding instead of leaving it natural, as it always turns black or bleaches when left raw. Also, I am a fan of gutters. The trick to putting them on in snowy and icy areas is to; A. get strong ones, cedar gutters cost more and need maintenance, but I have neve seen them damaged by the elements; B. Mount them low enough on the fascia so that a sheet of ice coming off the roof would not hit them. Take a straight edge on the roof and extend it past the overhang and keep the gutters entirely below it. If this isn't done then they get damaged and/or ripped right off by snow and ice; C. Clean them out at least twice a year, spring and fall.
