it can be summed up with a question to you. When you ever sell, you must disclose that asbestos is in the ceiling. Big Red Flag. You will then most likely have to replace it or knock off a big chuck off selling price to have them do it.

Asbestos is not good nowa days.

Asbestos is dangerous when broken, chiped, or dust from it is airborne. In its current state it is rather safe. If you do any work with it, it is suggested that you water it down to keep dust from flying around.

I would bite the big bullet and replace it now instead of covering it up and then haveing to replace both layers.
