14 years is not all that old, but things will need attention soon.

I had an old unit that was actually 25 years old. In Texas, the AC is on 100% of the time in June through Sept. She just kept getting more and more un-efficient.

I had replaced the compressor, replaced the fan, charged the unit every summer. And finally I decided its time for a completely, I mean completely new unit, inside and out.

My bills are much more reasonable and the effeciency rating is so much better. The unit now is running quitely and less often.

Do not catch yourself replacing each componet one at a time and then have a new unit, but all different ages.

If you do the compressor now, if on a tight budget, that is fine. You have 3 to 5 years left on the old one. But, I would not replace any other component after this one.

you will actually be much better off with a new unit.

Alot to think about.

Shop around for installation fees. They do vary widely.
