In reply to refinishing a hardwood floor by Tonya L. Fulk on April 19th, 2000 10:32 PM [Go to top of thread]

There are several posts on these topics on the board already, just get on the main board and use ctrl-f to search for hardwood floors.

As far as removing deeper stains, you can try bleach, but I wouldn't recommend it. you can also try regular water, put a dry towel over the top, and try steaming the stained water out with an iron, although that is pretty risky as well.

Henry may have a better idea...

Tonya, don't fill in the gaps between the floor boards. They have shrunken since they were installed, due to a reduction in moisture content. You may find that uncovering them and exposing them to humid air will cause the gaps to go away, or at least be less noticable. If you fill the gaps, when the boards expand, they will push whatever you filled the gaps with right out of the gaps, ruining your new finish.

Read the other posts on the board, and consider having a professional refinish the floors. You will get better results, and take less anacin in the process...

Good luck to both of you!
