Thinset vs. Mastic - Flexibility?

Posted by Dodgeman on July 20th, 2000 12:55 PM

When installing ceramic tile in the past, I have always used an organic mastic to attach the tile to the plywood subfloors. My logic was that the organic mastic would be more flexible, and if any slight floor movement existed, the tiles wouldn't loosen. Now I read (I think it was on the "Tileman" site) that thinset remains more flexible than organic mastics. I thought thinset was some type of portland/concrete product, and as such would become brittle. What has been others experience?
