Be careful in measuring from the basement floor up to the beam. Basement floors can vary quite a bit, and what appears to be a non-level beam could actually be the floor being non-level.
I would run a tight string from one concrete wall to the other, and then measure variations in the beam relative to that straight line. That will give you a starting point.
