heat plates. This is probably what you had. The advantage of a heat plate over a heat gun is where the woodwork/surface is relatively flat (like clapboard or baseboard). The heat gun works better for more ornate molding and tight corners. I have two heat guns: a Milwaukee and a Black and Decker. The Milwaukee has 10 settings, and the B&D has 2. Bother were under $50
