Thermopane Sliding glass door

Posted by David F. Post on December 31st, 2002 01:26 PM

The thermopane window on our sliding glass door
was shot out by some idiot with a BB gun. (He also
did the same damage to our next door neighbor's
slider and the tires on another neighbor's car.)
The contractor who is doing work on our bathroom
got us a quote of $2451 to replace the the whole
door. I called the glass company who our neighbor
used to get a quote on replacing the glass. (The
insurance agent told us the glass only is covered.)
My wife is mad at me since she claims that thermopane
glass can not be replaced. Our deductible is $250.
I don't know yet what the glass only cost is.
Should I replace the door or only the glass?
We actually have two sliders on our back deck from
our family room. The house is 15 years old. The
contractor says the manufacturer of the original
door is no longer in business. If the new door
does not match the old door then we would need to
replace the other door. I cannot afford another
$2450 at this time.
