There's a difference between IC and non IC cans

If you plan on insulating the ceiling then get the IC rated cans. Insulation must be kept 3 feet away from the non-IC cans.

Aside from the insulation issue, either type will work.

I also recommend the fluorescent fixture for times you need bright light.

Put the recessed lights on a dimmer switch. Also create zones or areas of lights so you don't have to turn all the cans on at one time. I did that and it's very rare that we want or need all the lights on at one time.
