In answer to your question, there's quite a bit more than ceiling drywall & joists depending on that bearing; over 50% of the roof structure (including decking & shingles) in that area, PLUS anything which might decide to visit that snow.

What you're speaking of doing might work just fine today, but what about tomorrow?

The situation doesn't sound like you couldn't necessarily do this yourself, BUT, do it with the supervision & approval of those who understand the loading principles and building codes; you can be your own contractor, but contractors must still have their work approved by building inspectors.
