The problem with tract home split levels

It was popular for decades, especially 1960 to 1970 to put the ductwork for the lower level along the ceiling and blow air down from registers in them with a return for the furnace at the wall to the laundry room. You can never get heat down from the ceiling level to the floor. A lot of people thought they could get it warm with a fireplace - big investment - no success. the answer to comfort is to install a boiler to run baseboard around the cold floor slab in the lower level and install a hot water coil in the furnace and use it as a blower for cooling and heat for the rest of the houss.
