actually have the logs or hot coals sitting on hollow pipes that with a electric fan blowing the super heated air out of the fire box to the inner room works quite well.
With this going and your ceiling fan in reverse, this will be quite effecient.
Now another problem will occur. Most homes have the thermostat in the room with the fire place or very close to it. The fireplace heat exchanger and the reversed fan will cause that room to become quite warm and comfortable and communicate to the thermostat that all is well.
The other back rooms will become very cold and uncomfortable due to this.
Another fall back of this system is that the fire grates, (cradle where the actual burning logs sits on) will in short time become compromised and either rot through or collasp.
Then during the night when you leave the room and retire, make sure that your fire screen is NOT leaking. Do not shut off the damper, just make sure that suffecient insulation is around the outer cover to reduce air leaking out.
