painting kitchen cabinets is done all the time. but they must be prep. well to ensure good paint adhesion. usually a paint deglosser should be used to wipe down all the surfaces to be painted. removing the doors will help in painting too. I might even suggest taking a fine grade sandpaper and lightly sanding the surfaces to be painted too. then a good coat of primer ...and a good coat of oil based paint onto the cabinets will do the job. use good ventilation because the paint smell will be overpowering but after a day or two of drying the odor should dissipate. good luck.
