The elusive cobblewood floor

I want to find out hao big was the lumber that they used in making the cobblewwod floor. I believe they had used scrap 4x4's and cut then cut them in half. I also think that the wood was douglas fir, which was very popular for homes built in chicago at that time. If any one has that information I'd appreciate it. Thanks
