to remove any adhesive residue is the use of a Citrus Base Cleaner. Use a citrus cleaner that does not contain solvent. Saturate the adhesive residue and let it soak in - can take several hours or more. It will soften the tape or adhesive so it can be scraped off with a plastic squeegee.

The masking tape is a rubber based adhesive that has oxidized to the metal cabinet. If the adhesive reacted with the paint then the cabinet will have to be repainted since the paint will come off with the tape residue. Try the Citrus cleaner first to see if it will come off clean.
