I started removing light-bulbs because for some reason my wife (the poster child for electrical consumption) couldn't figure out that those switches work both ways. I'm not a cheap bas$@$d or anything, but jeez, why do you need a light on if you're not in the room?
I guess you could always get a larger hot-water tank if you really didn't mind the fact that they like long showers. I'd never scream at my wife for taking a long shower if it makes her feel better. I know some mornings when I have to get up at 3:00 or something I'm in there quite awhile trying to get my wits. I feel alot better than if I had just jumped in and out. I bought an ultra-efficient 80-gallon tank from the power company for only $175 (discounted $350) and it costs less to run than the 40 gallon we had before.
