That's pretty much what I had in mind. I do have experience with carpentry, electrical, plumbing (what homeowner hasn't?) and I feel comfortable with doing the work myself. I've previously replaced a roof, gutted several bathrooms, laid tile, just about every 'home improvement' project you can think of. However, I haven't ever started from scratch & I know I will be better off with some help laying the floor joists & framing the exterior, if anything else just to keep it all square. But from what I've researched I will need a building permit, which requires plans, which requires an architect, etc. If I can get a permit without having build-ready plans that lay out every board & outlet then I'm good to go.
