In reply to ALWAYS make a heat estimate! by Harold Kestenholz - on April 14th, 2002 02:57 AM [Go to top of thread]

But, a couple of questions please.
I tried to run your "heat loss estimator". What exactly goes in the "air change" box? AND what would you think the R value should be for a floor that was over a partially heated basement? The basement in my home is finished, but hardly used. Only 3 duct vents, and it is usually about 10 degrees cooler then the upstairs in the winter.

Would the window gap estimate be the same for aluminum framed double paned windows that are set into the walls?

I'm going to also install A/C with this new system, the home has not had this before. I tried to run your "active X" estimator to figure cooling esitmates, but could not get it to run.
Is the "heat loss estimator" any indication of what might be needed to cool a home? Can it be sort of used in reverse?
Thanks again for your input.
