If you have "Popcorn texture", painting can be a challenge, but I don't feel that a sprayer is the answer. Spray works best on smooth surfaces. Spraying paint on a textured surface usually requires someone to "back roll" or "Back brush", meaning having some one use a brush or roller to work the paint into the surface.
If your trying to paint Popcorn texture, you'll need to start with an oil primer like "Kilz" or "CoverStain". Latex primers and paints can disolve the texture and make a mess of the whole thing. When the primer is fully dry (usually several hours, regardless of what the can says) you'll have a much better expirence in applying the paint.
