Textured ceiling - Help!!

Posted by Marianne on January 2nd, 2002 07:38 PM

We had to repair a water leak in our kitchen caused from the bathtub on the second floor. The texture on the ceiling is such that we could not duplicate it. I tried my best to patch and duplicate the texture and then added Bondex sand to paint in hopes that I could disguise my work enough to get by. It didn't work!! I painted the whole kitchen ceiling thinking that it would all look the same by adding the sand. Now I have rough areas across the span of the ceiling making it look really blotched. Do I need to sand the whole ceiling down to get rid of the rough areas? I've tried to just sand the rough areas and that doesn't work with just a hand sander. Can I re-mud the whole ceiling without sanding the paint off and try to re-texture a completely different texture? My husband is very unhappy and I'd like to fix the problem myself but I don't know where to go from here. Can anyone lend me some information on what I need to do? Thank you.
