Termite control options -- continued

I posted a while ago about how to go about choosing a termite control service. I'd like to provide an update and also solicit more advice on the matter.

I've now heard from three companies (two national, one local). I've had estimates ranging from $1300 initial installation (for baiting) and 300/year inspection to $2300 for chemical spray and 300/year inspection.

I've heard "the sprays don't last more than 5 years" from the guy who provides the baiting service and I've heard "it[baiting]is like putting hamburgers around your house when you've got a filet in your basement" from the guy who provides the spray service. (I personally loved that one)

I'm seriously considering NO treatment at all and having a yearly inspection just to "catch" damage when/if it occurs. (My home is 80 years old - has signs of previous damage, but most of the wood is "hard wood" and is in extremely good condition)...

Again, any advice on which way to go????
