We have teenage twin boys, Hank. At one point or another, just about everything in the house has been broken. Doors are a particularly good example. Some people might tend to think that I overengineer everything. I would give a suspended shelf with a 24" overhang about 6 months around our house. That's why I vote for at least concidering the braces.
