Use duct tape to join the seams of the pad.
The duct tape can and should go on top of the seams.

Use a good quality of carpet seam tape for the carpet itself. this should go on the underneath part of the carpet or between the pad and the carpet.

use a good quality of tape so that you do not have to redo this in the near future.
