Our home is 75 years old - we purchased it in May 2001. The previous owners did a lot of work on the house, some good and some bad. One bad thing is the location of the water heater. It is situated in the crawlspace under the house and actually sits in a concrete basin below ground level. We had a lot of rain this last December and the basin folded, causing the pilot in the water heater to go out. I installed a sump pump which took care of the folding but we thought that a tankless water heater is a better solution since it would be smaller and could be installed well above ground level. We've read a bit about tankless water heaters, but would appreciate any practical tips anyone could give us.
