I was thinking of going the tankless route and if you are, you better do your homework first. It will cost me a 1000 plus to match the performance of my old workhorse 40 gallon tank. Even though they use 50% less energy I am left wondering If the Maintenace prone tankless units will give me enough years of service to offset the overpriced start-up cost. When I say maintenace prone please notice that each site is offering a descaling kit as an accesory and you are looking at a high tech piece of equiptmnet compared to your oh so simple tank heater. I have heard how popular they are in Europe but I am begining to understand why they have not caught on here in the good old USA. I'm sure they have their applications but until they become a little more affordable they probably won't apply to me.
