Switch loops

Gina, what you see in the switch box is called a
switch loop (or switch leg); the white = neutral
rule doesn't apply to switch loops. It's basicly
just an extension of the hot wire in the fixture
box; you can't use it to add another switch. What
you need do is run another cable from the fixture
box to the switch box to create a second switch
loop for the new switch. Or you can just control
the light with the existing switch.
