Support for a concrete garage floor

Posted by Gary on September 7th, 1999 11:53 PM

I'm looking to build a garage on a sloped site, and want to have a basement beneath the concrete garage floor. How do I support the concrete slab?

Also, since the site is sloped, part of the foundation can be stepped, and for normal house construction the expsed foundation wall would be done with framing lumber. Since this wall would support part of the concrete slab, what framing lumber and spacing must be used to support the load? Would wooden beams and wooden floor boards (thick ones) be suitable for a garage floor? I've seen this in barns and it seems to be fine.
