You can remove the carpet and drop it down to its regular level, but you have to address two other things.

Was there a piece of molding covering the meeting of the carpet and the drywall? If so, this piece needs removing and just droping down to the new spot which would be on the floor.

If this molding is not wide enough, 4 inches, then find another piece that is or use a combination of two to make the change.

Then repair the area where the old was. This should do it.
