Are there well-springs where your house is built?I have two sumps in my basement, one in the front of the house and one in the back.Even in driest of times they run a few times a day. I went to my towns Building Dept.for an unrelated problem and just through talking with a wounderful lady that has lived in town for a long time, she told me how they would water their tomatoes from their neighbors sump even with no rain for weeks. Is there a flow-check valve on the pipe above the pump? This will allow water to flow back into the pit and add to any that is incoming.
Gordon has a good point, check the HP of your pump, might need to up-it some.
I have found that this water is great for house plants.Just my opinoin.
