We have a sump well and pump that runs constantly during any wet weather for reasons unclear. There has been one incident in which our basement was flooded due to failure of the pump.
One suggested solution is to cut or drill into the sump well from the outside and install a gravity drain (there is sufficient slope on our property to accomodate such a drain). Unfortunately, we have yet to find anyone who is willing to take on the project since it will involve excavating below the footer and drilling through poured concrete.
Another possible option is to entend the 'tube' of the sump well vertically above the highest possible water table level, thereby preventing an flooding. Has anyone out there heard of doing anything like that? Where would I find the appropriate piping for such a project?
