Sump Pump Discharge

Posted by Steve on June 14th, 1998 01:57 PM

My sump pump discharges at the rear of my house through a 1.5" PVC pump. I tried to route the discharge (underground) down the side of the house to the street in front using 4" corrugated pipe. My problem is that from the back of the house to the front of the house the gound is sloped up to a crest and then it slopes down to the street. I couldn't get enough "fall" from the back of the house to the crest to get the 4" pipe to work. My question is: can I use 1.5" PVC and allow the sump pump to push it past the peak to where it will flow toward the front of the lot. One opinion I've gotten says that this will burn up the sump pump motor. I've already wasted $150 bucks on trenchers and pipe and don't want to try PVC until I'm sure it will work.... Help!!!
